Healthy Aging Month: who says your best years have to be behind you?

By Eden Covington on August 31, 2026

There are plenty of things you’re told to expect as you get older.

More candles on the birthday cake. A few more gray hairs. Maybe a growing appreciation for an earlier bedtime.

But somewhere along the way, you start hearing a different message: Slow down. Adjust your expectations. Accept that certain things might be a little harder.

This Healthy Aging Month, we’d like to challenge that idea.

Because getting older doesn’t have to mean sitting on the sidelines. For many members of the GOLO community, living a healthier lifestyle has helped them rediscover something they thought might be behind them: confidence, freedom, new experiences, and simply feeling excited about what comes next.

Here are four GOLO members who show that getting older can still mean feeling better, doing more, and enjoying life in new ways:

Norma before and after losing 53 pounds with GOLO

Going beyond expectations

When Norma started her journey, she assumed her age would limit her weight loss potential. She figured she would make some progress, but eventually hit a wall because she was older.

But GOLO helped her achieve goals beyond what she thought was possible.

“I expected to lose 20 to 25 pounds and then get stuck because of my age. To my surprise, the weight kept coming off. My friends think falling apart is just expected as you age. Now they always say, "What are you doing? You're reverse aging!”

Norma’s story is a reminder that age doesn’t always define what’s possible.

She started with a goal that felt realistic for where she was in life. But as she continued, she found herself going beyond what she had expected.

Sometimes the best part of making a change is discovering that your own expectations can change right along with you.

Karen before and after her GOLO weight loss journey

What if your diet fit into your life

Karen knows what it’s like to spend years dieting.

That’s why one of the most meaningful parts of her GOLO experience isn’t simply a number on the scale. It’s that healthy living no longer feels like something that has taken over her life.

“I've been dieting for decades. With GOLO, I can enjoy my life. I don't feel like I'm restricted. I feel like I'm just living my life.”

There’s something especially powerful about those last few words: "I’m just living my life." Karen finally found a lifestyle with GOLO, not restrictions. It's an approach that fits into the life she already has.

And that may be one of the most important parts of healthy aging: finding something you can actually live with — not just for a little while, but for the long haul.

Michael before and after losing weight with GOLO

Your goals don’t have an expiration date

Michael G. had tried plenty of diets before finding GOLO — and some of them came with a hefty price tag.

“I spent thousands on other diets that didn't work. On GOLO, I spent a couple hundred bucks and got back down to my high school weight.”

Michael’s story is a reminder that where you are today doesn’t have to define where you can go next. Maybe there’s a number you haven’t seen on the scale in years. Maybe there are clothes you’d love to feel comfortable wearing again. Or maybe you simply want to feel more like yourself.

Getting older doesn’t mean you have to stop setting goals for yourself. Sometimes, the biggest surprise is discovering just how much can still change.

Kevin before and after losing 152 pounds with GOLO

Kevin lost 152 lbs. in 14 months with GOLO*

A bigger life, a smaller number

Kevin struggled with his weight for years. As his 60th birthday approached, he weighed 345 lbs., wore a 5XL shirt, and had a 58-in waist. He knew he wanted things to change and decided to try GOLO.

Kevin improved his eating habits and experienced changes both on and off the scale. Over 14 months, he lost 152 pounds — and everyday life started to look very different.

“Before GOLO, I was just existing in life. Now, I can hike to waterfalls, go ziplining, exercise, and so much more. My overall health and energy are off the charts, and I’m finally living life!”

For Kevin, the transformation wasn’t just about losing weight. It was about removing some of the limitations that had been keeping him from doing the things he wanted to do. That’s what makes his story such a powerful example of healthy aging. It’s about having more freedom to go places, try things, stay active, and participate more fully in your own life.

And maybe that’s one of the best measures of progress as we get older: not just what changes on the scale, but what becomes possible because of it.

What do you want your future to look like?

Norma, Karen, Michael, and Kevin have different stories, but they all have something in common: they made changes that helped them get more out of the life they’re living now.

Norma went further than she expected.

Karen found an approach that fits into her everyday life.

Michael reached a goal he had been working toward for years.

Kevin found more freedom to do the things he enjoys.

So this Healthy Aging Month, think about how you want to feel, what you want to be able to do, and what matters most to you in the years ahead.

Maybe it’s taking a trip you’ve been putting off, spending more time outside, keeping up with the grandkids, trying something new, or simply feeling more comfortable and confident in your everyday life.

Whatever it looks like for you, there’s always room to make changes that help you get more out of the years ahead.
