Why You Should Be Avoiding Soy
There’s a common misconception out there that soy is a healthy choice. When in fact, there are a lot of health hazards related to the consumption of soy.
Soybeans contain large quantities of natural toxins or “antinutrients.” Among them are enzyme inhibitors that block the enzymes needed to digest protein. They are also high in phytic acid, which is a substance that blocks the absorption of essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc. Soy products also contain high levels of aluminum, which can have neurotoxic effects. Soy products are also full of lectins, which will confuse your leptin sensitivities (your brains hunger and energy signals).
Soy foods have a high concentration of giotrogens, a compound that blocks production of thyroid hormones. Soy can also effect estrogen and testosterone levels. This is because it contains plant estrogens (isoflavones) that have been shown to raise your estrogen levels, which leads to lowering your testosterone levels. This can lead to a lot of health issues for men AND women.
Soy also has a negative effect on the Earth. Soy is one of the most destructive type of crops. They take nutrients from the soil, without giving any in return. 99% of all soy crops are now genetically modified, which most of us know is bad news.
Soy is now included in almost every processed food available. One of the most popular being soy milk. This “milk” is basically made from the residue left over from the process of making tofu. Does that sound appetizing? I don’t think so. Here are some soy by-products that you definitely want to avoid:
• Soy protein isolate
• Textured soy protein
• Soy protein concentrate
• Hydrolized soy (or vegetable) protein
• Soybean oil
• Soy Lecithin
• Soy milk
Take a look at a few packaged foods and you will find that almost all of them contain one (or more) of these products. Yet another reason to try to stick to the GOLO plan of real, whole foods.
