Ch-ch-ch-chia! I bet a lot of us remember that commercial that we could never get out of our heads! Today’s post is about chia seeds- tiny, tiny seeds that contain big nutritious benefits! Chia means “strength” in the Mayan language. These seeds have been used for centuries, mostly for energy. In fact, Aztec warriors ate chia seeds in order to sustain high energy and endurance- just one spoonful of seeds could keep them energized for 24 hours! They include many nutrients and minerals, such as fiber, fats, protein, manganese, phosphorus, calcium, zinc, copper, sulphur, iron, iodine, magnesium, omega 3, and vitamins A, B, E and D.

• Skin- Chia seeds are full of antioxidants, which speed up the skin’s repair systems and prevent further damage.

They also create a gelatin-like substance in the stomach, which can work as a prebiotic, supporting the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut.
• Heart health- Chia has the ability to reverse inflammation, regulate cholesterol and lower blood pressure.
