Natural Remedies for Chapped Lips
We are now entering the winter months, which means … the dreaded chapped lips. There are many other reasons for chapped lips besides the cold, such as:
• Dehydration- not drinking enough water
• Not enough healthy fat in your diet
• Mouth-breathing
• Nutrient deficiencies- low levels of iron, zinc, & B vitamins
• Certain medications
• Irritating foods
• Illness
Now, the first thing we would think to do is pull out our handy dandy Chapstick and slather it on. But more often than not, the Chapstick we have come to know and love can be even more damaging to the already dry lips. Most are made with penol and menthol, which are very drying. Luckily, like almost everything else these days, there are natural remedies to bring moisture back into your lips.
• Castor oil
• Coconut Oil
• Honey
• Aloe Vera
• Mango Butter
• Cucumber Slices – rub one all over your lips!
• Drink more water
You can also make a homemade lip scrub to get rid of the flaky skin on your lips. It is very easy. All you need is 2 tablespoons softened coconut oil, 2 tablespoons coconut palm sugar, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Combine ingredients and store in a glass container. To use, spread the scrub over your lips and massage for 5 minutes, and rinse with warm water.
