Jackfruit as a Meat SubstituteJanuary 30, 2017
This is a post mainly aimed for our vegan or vegetarian members, but it is certainly something that anyone can try!
Today we are going to tell you about jackfruit. What is it you ask? Jackfruit is a tropical fruit that is native to India, Southeast Asia, and Brazil. It is a big fruit, larger than a watermelon. In the United States, it is usually sold canned, frozen or dried, and one place that I know of who sells it is Whole Foods.
Why am I telling you this? It is because it can be used as a meat substitute! Unripe jackfruit has a sort of “shredded” texture and look to it. It doesn’t really have a taste when it isn’t ripe yet, so it picks up the taste of whatever you put onto it! I am including a link on how to prepare the jackfruit and the link also includes some recipes- http://dailyburn.com/life/health/jackfruit-new-meat-substitute
